EFI Fuel hose

Hey guys, posting this here because of the EFI setup on a 5.0 motor even though it's in a 66 mustang. Quick question about the fuel line. I have 30 feet of 1/4 inch EFI fuel line. I went with 1/4 inch because the fittings on the external fuel pump and the fuel filter are 1/4 inch, the motor is stock except for BBK intake, and Exhaust, I will be running long tube headers with 2 1/4 echaust, straight pipes through 40 flows. do you see a problem with the size of the fuel line. the second question is the efi hose that I will be running the whole length of the car has the blue vinyl piece on the inside with the rubber on the outside. instead of the vinyl being on the outside. do you see a problem with this hose being out in the elements, I know they use this fuel line under the hood, but didn't think about it being out in the elements untill after I baught it and was about to route it.

What happened to your bone stock 5/16 hard line? The main problem is the cost of that much EFI flexible fuel line its like 4-5 dollars a foot. The next problem is that if you want to go to the drag strip and test out your hot 5.0 early mustang, you need to have less than 12 inches of flexible fuel line throughout your ride to be legal. They will push this rule the first time, but if you have the entire length of your car ran, they might trip. Did you buy enough of this line to go back to the tank for the return as well? As far as size, restricting the inner diameter of fuel line by only 1/16 of an inch, restricts flow by more than you and me would just guess thinking about it. If your pump is 1/4 out and in though may as well by 1/4 throughout. What is the flowrate of that pump?

No way would I run rubber line the length of the car - it's such a safety/hazard concern.

well cost isn't the problem, since I allready have the fuel line. I have 28 feet of the rubber line. the hardline that was on the 66 is shot. I could try to take the hardline off of the 86, the bends are a lot different but I can always bend the hardline again using a tubing bender which I allready have. Maybe I try that. I do want to take the 66 with the 5.0 fuel injected motor to the track so I guess I have to minimize the flex line. but the stock 86 has more then 1 foot of flex line on it. it has more then that by the take comming from the filter to the hardline. and then some more flex line on the front of the mustang going from the hard line to the fuel rails. do people usually change that before they go to the track or since it's from the factory is it allowed.

Negetive they don't change that out to be legal at the track. This type of flex line is vinyl and it is not considered under the 12inch rule in nhra for probably multiple reasons one of them being its psi rating is extreme when compared to efi flex line from goodyear. This type of line is used for the hydraulic clutch in an 83 camaro to give you an example of load it will endure. It does burn easily though so I am only guessing but they use vinyl for the entire engine compartment fuel line on a 93 firebird and they go through the drag lanes all day long. Guess vinyl is exempt for one of its characteristics, just dont know which. If i was you, I would run hard lines to and from the engine just to be on the safe side. It's temping though if you already have 26 feet of the flexible though.

I am doing the same thing efi into my 65. I was going back and forth when I was doing mine I also thought about the efi fuel line but I ended thinking it would be better to use the lines of the fox much better. didn't know about the 12 inches of rubber line rule. I thought if you ever run over anything might tear and have a leak.

yea that's what I decided to do. I am routing the lines from the 86 in. I am having to re-bend them in a few spots with a tubing bender of course, but I think it's going to work. the only thing that is being a pain is the end of the lines by the tank. since there is so many bends in that area allready, I might just cut the lines with a pipe cutter and run 8 inches of rubber line to the tank, maybe even get some of the vinyl line to put in since I know it won't go against me at the track.

any one see a problem with me putting the fuel filter in side the engine bay along the passenger side firewall. would be much easier for me to splice it in there since I am using the hard line.

If you want to do the job once and do it right then get your tubing and other parts here: Classic Tube - PreBent and Custom Stainless and OE Brake Lines and more...

They have the fuel lines prebent for your classic Mustang or you can buy straight lengths and bend them yourself. Don't forget that you need a 5/16" pressure line and a 1/4" return if you're using Ford factory fuel injection.
