Okay, I decided to unwrap my modified harness I bought so I could custom fit it to my car. Well, needless to say I'm very disappointed w/this harness now... find it has soldered wires not soldered w/quality (I can fix that) and also there's a wire that runs to the distributor that appears to be a ground strap, has anyone seen this before? I really don't have $600 to buy a new prefit harness for this thing... so I'm going to try and make this one work. I'll have to trace every wire and cut the one's I don't need.

that ground strap (or whatever it is) goes to this blue connector....

Do you know what these blue connectors are?? It appears two wires go in, and only one comes out.

I have to step out for a bit... this is giving me a headache.

i too unraveled a section of a wiring harness i bought. i thought it was stock, except i found wires soldered on where i didnt expect them to be..... are you sure it isnt just Ford being lazy?

wow, those look like scotch locks. they are the easy way to splice into wire without cutting and soldering. Not that I'm an expert but have cut open a few wiring harness and I have never seen ford use them. I have seen some shady for soldering. Kinda like PJ talks about.

Boy you might have your work cut out for you on that harness. I highly recommend the Ford motorsport manuel Vintage bronco has it hosted: http://www.vintagebronco.com/newberry/pages/tech/efi/efi.html
The wire colors should be the same and help you out a bunch. Those scotch locks really make me nervouse, but if it's all you got, it's all you got!! Good Luck!!!

Mine has a few hacks I have to clean up as well. Usually a good soldering iron and some shrink wrap should be able to fix it. Looks like the blue connectors were used as a cheap way of tapping a wire but shouldn't be needed for factory connections.

The bronco link and FordFuelInjection.com can really helpe to understand what the harness wiring is doing but yes it does give one a headache.

I had most of mine figured out and then I've moved on to other areas and have likely forgotten everything I learned.. :(

Good luck and keep us posted.

I can't figure out what that exposed wire does exactly? Prevents shorts?

I traced it from the Negative wire that goes to the battery, and is the main ground, and it wraps around 2-3 wires going to the distributor connection. But it doesn't splice into anything on the distributor wires, it just stops by the connector and wraps around the wires without being connected. those 3 wires + that ground strap are wrapped w/ aluminum shielding (foil?) Since this wire doesn't splice into anything except the Negative to the battery, and not to the distributor - would it be safe to remove it? I just don't see the point of it being there, unless it prevents a short?

Pic #1 is a ground...just ground the thing anywhere you want...you could use the dist hold down bolt if you want..

Pic #2 is a scotch lock..made for splicint into a wire without cutting it. Pop open the cap on it and you will see... there is a piece of metal shaped as a "M" where a wire goes on both undersides of the "M" and it bridges the gap with the piece of metal...

Any other questions?? You goal is to basically power the computer...thats just about all you need to do
