My friend is convinced a 94+ style 302 EFI intake will not fit in a 66 stang. We have a 98 explorer motor Im building and putting in and he says the manifold needs to have the TB coming strait off, no 90* curve.... Anyone know anything about this, or is he full of it?

I've seen 2 different basic style manifolds, the short one that they put on the cars and a taller version they put in the trucks. I would think the Car version would fit just fine. Where did he think the problem would be?

Im using this setup its the straight outlet explorer and its a very tight fit to the shock tower, Ive talked to a handfull of people who say the 94/95 curved intake actually fits better.

ya that looks like the tall one, I'm not sure if the lower one is any shorter on the shocktower end.

TT does that clear your hood OK?

Clears fine, Ive got about 1 3/8" of space. Im going to swap to taller TCP motor mounts becuse my headers are real tight and ratlle on the shock tower. For the intake Im using a c&l intake tube and air meter, if you use the Ford plastic tube there is a little more room. You CANNOT run the factory EGR spacer, just not enough room and you'll need a eliminator kit to prevent you from getting a code. For the explorer engine, I hope youre not trying to run the Explorer EEC system. The 87-93 EEC IV with an A9 processor is by far the best route to take in a conversion into a vintage mustang.\ the Exporer OBDII and variable flow fuel pump would be a nightmare.

Understood, I was including added info for bored&stroked. Regarding keeping it simple, really its much more simple than most would think. Its as close to plug and play as you could get with high tech automotive stuff.

Awsome info. He must have been thinking about the 90* EGR plate thats on the stock explorer manifolds [and 94/95 ones, he has a 95]

No I am not using the stock explorer injection. Im selling the wiring harness/DIS ignition [if anyone wants it] and getting a A9 computer and MAF setup from a 89-93 'stang. I am using the nice intake and gt40p heads though Giving it about 9.4:1 compression, a comp cam, nice exaust, and calling it a day. It will be my buddy's girlfriends 100,000 mile daily driver. Its so nice building motors with other peoples money.....

that looks nice in there. one question from the not so new engine savvy crowd, how do you figure all of this out? is there a convert your mustang to new technology 101 class I can take?? I would love to do some of this stuff and I am really handy with the wrenches I just get all mystified with stuff that needs to be done to get a new engine, ecu, and wire harness and get it all in and working....

seriously is there a nooby site for coversions?

yea theres plenty of info on it. www.fordfuelinjection.com is a great place(my favorite) as is www.windsorfox.com and www.ronmorrisperformance.com. If youre really interested in doing an EFI swap feel free to email me. I built my own harness and integrated some features ford doesnt in order to make troubleshooting easier. I ended up doing my entire EFI setup piece by piece, to suit my needs. I know this ford EEC stuff inside and out and would be willing to offer any help I can.
