EFI to Carb - What about the Computer?

Hey guys.. i have been trying to find some info on a EFI to carb swap, but having a hard time with all the computer stuff. The car will be a 88 gt. I want to go carb because i can find alot more parts cheaper for it than the EFI. I know what parts i need, thats all covered.. what i dont know is what to do with the ECU and related hardware.. I know alot of sensors and things re run from this.. so how do i go about keeping everything working correctly with the carb setup??

Or, is there a link to a site or other thread with this info??

you wont need all that junk if you make the switch

So, i can just do away with the stock computer if i switch to carb?

For some reason, that sounds like it wouldnt be right?!?

You'll need an msd or similiar ignition, thats all. I sold my computer and harness for $250.

In the 87-93 cars the two harnesses (body and engine) are seperate (stand alone) for the most part. However having said that you will need to tap into a few wires to get things like your oil pressure/water temp guages, fuel pump power, and a few more - do a search on here it has been covered a ton.

Do yourself a favor - when you choose a carb combo make sure you research your combo and learn to tune a carb. Nothing I hate more than a guy with a stock 302/350 or whatever with a giant vic jr intake and a Holley 750 double pumper taken out of the box and slapped on...and they complain about rotten gas mileage and bad drivability...not to mention the raw gas smell!

Send Mike Keirstead a PM,he just made that swap so I'm sure its still fresh in his mind. His stang went low 12's with EFI,when he went to a carb he ran mid 11's.

Well, my plans are to use a set of ported gt40p's.. ported e7's with 1.84/1.55 valves.. with a edelbrock rpm air gap intake, rpm cam (.496"/.520") lift, with a set of 1.6rr's for added lift.. and topped off with a Holley 670cfm street avenger carb (vac secondaries, dual fuel inlet).. which i will get tuned at Protech Performance here in town.

I will also run long tubes, under drives, etc.. full msd ignition, including the distributor..

The only thing i worried about is maybe my carb will be too big??

the carb will be just fine, myself i run an edelbrock 600, and save yourself the money and do an HEI conversion. you will be happy and you will get the same results as the msd junk. if you want the info on that email me or PM me. it is really easy and takes abotu 30 minutes to hook it up.

Dont the87+ come with the HEI set up?

TFI is ford's ignition and HEI is chevy but you can use the HEI module and some wiring with the tfi or any other non CD ignition coil

You can buy a universal linkage, or get a throttle cable for an 85 or earlier stang.

it was already converted because it is an ex drag car, i just put the motor in and did the t5 thing and wired up the ignition. so the cable was like that.
