went to go set my intake up i have a victor 5.0 and it dosnt have the water fiting to the egr plate can i block it off would i sacrife power and wut if i didnt use my egr plate at all what would i need besides a custom bent tube to my sc i know its only smog stuff i dont wanna lose power though

my god, use periods so I can understand what you're trying to ask.
 
there is arguement about the purpose of the coolant lines on the EGR. most think it is for icing issues on the TB or for slight cooling of the TB. many have ditched the lines and ran fine.

if you ditch the EGR altogether and dont tune for it, you can see some detonation issues. the EGR allows spent gasses back into the chambers under part throttle. the spent gasses effectively slow down the burn of the air/fuel mixture. so the puter knows this and dials in a bunch of timing. now when you ditch the egr and dont tell the puter, it leads to detonation.

the EGR functions at part throttle, and does not affect performance when you mash the pedal. it helps with emissions and it cools the chambers down. i would not ditch it altogether.

im with you on that one. also, the coolant lines arent really doin anything. it really isnt gonna raise the temp of the intake charge by enough to matter. its not like the coolant is being forced through that tiny little hole....the coolant is flowing through the heater tube under the throttle body on the lower intake. take them off, leave them on....who cares
 
yeah im leaving my egr but my inyake has no coolant out let for the plate so ill be alright........has any one try running maybe c02 or alchol through the lines for more cooling
 
its not gonna cool anything down....unless its like liquid nitrogen. but anyways, there should be a coolant line on the backside of the intake in relatively the same location as the other one. but who cares if its hooked up
 
shttygt- if the set up is the one you've been describing - with thicker head gasket (no quench) and non-intercooled boost, you've got potential for detonation big time as we've been telling you. You're gonna exacerbate that situation with no functioning egr. The egr system cools the combustion chamber allowing the computer to run the engine leaner and with more timing at part throttle. If you remove the egr system but don't turn off the egr function in the ecu with a chip, you're run the chance of having even more part throttle detonation. Other than clutter there is no downside to the egr system. It only works at part throttle, it doesn't function at wide open throttle (so removing doesn't improve anything) or at idle. I'd leave it on and simply don't cool the spacer - people remove the cooling lines all the time.

If you run the setup you've been describing AND remove the egr, I'll be surprised if you don't blow a head gasket (or worse) with detonation under boost.
 
micheal i went and bought a set of edelbrock heads and im not unpluging the egr i just dont well i cant use the coolant lines on the egr because there are none

as far as the thicker head gasket im still using it but instead of compression being at 8.5 it will be at 9 now the heads retain 60cc chambers
 
The issue on detonation with the thicker head gasket isn't compression ratio related, so much as it is quench related. With the thicker head gasket the gap between the piston and the head outside of the combustion chamber (the quench zone) is gonna much bigger than optimum to force the mixture into the chamber. That often results in detonation problems - which will be made worse by boost. I guess if were gonna buy heads, I'd've gottent he bigger chamber (64) cc which would've reduced your ratio, and allowed you to run a standard thickness head gasket solving the quench issue. Good luck with it - hope it works out the way you want it to.
