EGR on Performer RPM heads?

The specs on my Edel. Performer RPM heads say they are non-EGR heads...however I still have my EGR system connected and it SEEMS to be operating. At least when I disconnect the wiring connector to the EGR valve, the car feels noticeably rougher on throttle changes. I've been thinking about cutting a b-off plate out of steel, unless anyone knows of a CHEAP one.

My question is though, IS my EGR system operational with these heads? Because if it IS operating, then I want to keep it to keep cyl. temperatures down and avoid detonation...but if it's not even working, there's no reason to keep the hardware for it.

Well I disconnected it this evening and the car runs SO much better. It used to stumble on its face when I revved it...now it revs clean and normal. Instead of "vrmm VRRRRRMMM....it's "VRRRRMMMMMM".

So should I reconnect the computer hookup, but leave the vacuum line off, or what? It runs GREAT without the EGR, doesn't stumble anymore but throws a check engine light...but I don't want it to pull timing or fuel. I need both!!

Well, the computer hookup and assembly CONTROLS the EGR valve's opening and closing...right? So...how about if I just remove the entire sensor hookup backing plate off the valve....right? Because it's removeable and wont cause a vacuum leak.......right? Those arent sarcastic btw, those are just things Im assuming to be true but doublechecking.
