"GT-R Mustang, thats the hotest shiit"
I'm surprised you guys don't know about the '01 GT-R!
Everyone knows about the 2000 Cobra-R. Well, after the success of the Cobra-R, Ford decided to back it up with a model in a lower class of competition. Ford wanted to make a statement in the 13lb/hp class. They couldn't boost the HP of the GT past 260, but they could vastly improve the suspension and handling of the car. Thus the 2001 GT-R was born.
In 2001 in was only required to have the manufacturer produce 50 models of the car for competition. Ford built 63 2001 GT-R Mustangs (11 Oxford white). The focus was on suspension and aerodynamics. The 5300B,C, and F Ford FRPP spring sets that are available now were tested and proven on the 2001 GT-R. The car came with 5300B springs installed, but with C and F spring sets in the trunk. These springs were ready for installation, depending on the track, and conditions being run. QA1 built a special set of adjustable shocks and struts for the GT-R, and they were standard on the car. The 2000 Cobra-R 17x9 wheels were carried over to the GT-R, but they were chrome plated, instead of painted silver.
Notice the front air dam of the GT-R! It is the same spoiler used on the 2002 Mach 1 prototype, and the '03, '04 production Mach 1's. This front spoiler was developed and tested on the '01 GT-R first!
Although the '01 GT-R is rated at 260HP, don't let that fool you! K&N developed their FIPK on the GT-R, and the aftermarket tuner companies had great efffect in adjusting the computer for maximum output. But, a maximum HP level was monitored, so extensive mods were not legal.
The GT-R was highly successful finishing first 4 times, second twice, third once, fifth once, and sixth once in it's competition entry.
I bought my GT-R from a friend, who had a friend, whos friend works for SVT. The SVT employee needed the cash to buy one of the 2007 Shelby GT500 Cobra prototypes. So, I bought his '01 GT-R.
The rest is fiction,.......
