the previous owner of my gt installed a set of el gauges in my car. at first they would flicker on and off and then one time they just turned off. after that i took the gauges out and cleaned up the wiring a little bit. it was working perfect until tonight when i noticed that they were really really dim. what should i look for to fix this?

look for the control pad, its a little flat pushpad with arrows up/down. Most people hide it cause its stupid looking....follow the wires from your guages if you can't find it.

no control pad.

here is how everything is wired:

small black box ties everything together

ribben cable going somewhere i cant tell.
black cable used for ground
black cable spliced into stock gauge wiring
cable connecting el overlay to black box

hey! i found the control pad!! it was connected to that ribben cable.

good news and bad news about it.

bad: it looks like some of the traces on the pad are shorted out, so it doesnt work anymore.

good: the pad itself connects to the ribben cable thru a connection and not directly to the box. so i was able to bridge the connections to change the lighting to what i wanted. I took the pad off and taped up the connection so as nothing else will short it out again

Just invest $25, and you can have a nice, new set, shipped to your door.
