elec water pump questions

You already have an electric fan so don't worry about that part. That's for people like foxbody owners who have mechanical fans. One of the main points of putting on an electric water pump is to save on the parasitic drag your accessories are making. I would also guess that an electric water pump doesn't spin fast enough to properly move air with a mech fan.

And you're not screwed if your mechanical water pump fails? You end up with the same result if the water pump fails. Electric or mechanical.

Electric water pumps have a constant flow whether you're at idle or at WOT or anywhere in between. Mechanical water pumps flow at a rate proportional to RPM. The electric water pump has an advantage that it flows more than the mechnical pump at idle and low throttle so it gives you better cooling. On the other hand, it flows less than the mechanical water pump at WOT, but how long do you stay at WOT anyway? Just 14-15 seconds at a time.

The concern with electric water pumps is their longevity. The Meziere brand is rated at something like 3000+ hours. That's about four months without turning it off. Or let's say you drive at an average of 30 miles an hour. Your electric water pump will be rated to last 90,000 miles! Your car probably has 30,000 miles on it. So if you install an electric water pump now, expect it to hold up to your 120,000 mile mark. If that's not enough, they come with a two year warranty.

If that's not enough for you, install a Cyberdyne digital water temp gauge too. The Cyberdyne gauge let's you set a warning temperature. When your water temp gets to your preset temp, the gauge will flash to let you know of the problem. This will give you an early warning that your water pump isn't performing to specs.
