Electric cut outs a waste of cash?

Rice I apologize for the fact that you take offense over trivial things. To answer your ? then I'll just say that I do agree w/ you that they are a waste of $.

They will probably give you no performance gains just makes the car louder.

The very best time in the quarter I was able to sqeeze out of my 98' Trans Am was a 13.20@107. Note that this was after a many passes in stock trim with an automatic transmission and in COLD weather. Otherwise, I clocked in consistant 13.50's@104/5 time after time after time. The first mod for my car was a 3" cutout before the muffler on the stock y-pipe. It sounded like a toilet flushing driving at normal speeds but more like a demon at WOT. Performance-wise on the street it felt much slower down low. In other words, it felt like going from a 3.55 geared stang to a 3.08. Since I didn't push it all that hard on the street, I took it to the track and the first time out with only the exhaust cutout I ran 13.20s all day. Most impressive was the fact that 107 was my slowest time after the mod. What it lacks down low it most definately makes up for past 4k. I never fear losing torque (which is also lost when using an x-pipe) because I always gear my cars for torque (and use sticky tires) to make up the difference.

You may not be happy with the way it will sound but it's not like you have to deal with it all the time. Just cap it up (and this case its electric) and the fact that you can totally trick people at the stoplight thinking you ain't got nothing until you flip open the cutout and blow by them sounding like a dragster (pending your engine mods of corse) would be radical. But it is expensive and that's the downside. I however believe it will outflow just about any aftermarket catback system for the money.

I am not sure about performance gain, but my buddies Z28 sounded AWESOME with his cut out. I did not know they made them for mustangs. I think it would sound good though. And it is a cool sleeper mod. Keep the stock catback, then open it up when you want it loud!

Cut-outs work for ls1 cars.
Cut-outs don't work on 4.6 cars.

I have two cutouts on mine and it sounds mean. Some say I lose power but I dont think so but I dont think I gained any either. Before the x pipe and cooling mods I did a 1.9 60ft and a 8.7 in the 1/8 so I dont think they hurt you too bad if they do. I do agree it helps out the ls1's alot better then the 4.6. I did buy the electric cutouts from quick time but I never put them on, the do seem to be well made though. You just have be prepared for a constant loud drone if you have them off but they sound just awesome from the outside and at WOP it sounds like all hell has broken lose.
