Electric Door Lock Installation?

Locks

I made a simple L bracket that attached to the stock Ford actuator. The door pic is the only pic I have. My Tech pages has more details of the install.

Here's how I made mine. I used 4 screws (2 under the door panel, and 2 at the edge of the door). Also, between the bracket and inner door I used strips of rubber sheet to eliminate the any sound when the locks are operated.

Thanks guys. Keep in mind I did it a little different. I didn't use the "bent rod" method that comes with most door pops. I found it deflects too much. I mounted the pops so that I could use a straight piece of threaded rod to connect the door pop to the existing lock rod.

On a side note. I can't tell you how funny it is that people are amazed that a 66 Mustang has power locks activated by the alarm. I get people all the time asking me if I just locked/unlocked my doors with my remote. The look on their face is like I just showed them the cure for cancer. :D

Hey GP

GP001,
Are the door latch mechanisms repo units and if so how have they been working out? I still have the originals, removed cleaned and degreased but still not as smooth as they need to be.

I hate to spend 70.00 a pop (No pun intended) on two sets of mechanisms but if the job needs it, make it so.

Glen,
I bought the MES 2 door kit from here http://a1electric.com/mes.htm for 59.99. If you already have the wiring you can scroll to the bottom for just the pops, but 2 of them are almost as much as the kit. These suckers are powerful and smooth. We put them in my buddy's truck (daily driver 18k+ miles a year) a few years ago and they still work fine.

EDIT - Oooops! I am really tired and misread your post. The latch mechanisms are repro units. They seem to work very well ( as compared to most repro crap).
