Which one do you suggest - fit w/o a fuss - lots of air flow - cheap - etc... Junk yard search for what? I hear Lincoln Mark 8 & Taurus but what should I look for and do they require modifications?
I bought a griffin from summit. Do a search. As far as the fan, seems like everyones doing the junkyard Taurus fan with a controller. I use a Pro Form from summit with a thermostat and manual switch
i have a volvo fan. a while after i bought it, i saw some one selling the same one on ebay and claimed it pulled 4000cfms. not sure what it flows but when i turn it on, i can put my hand about 6" infront of the grill and still feel it pulling air in. its very strong
Taurus fans - what year, body style, engine size, single or double fan etc...? Does it have to be cut to fit - I have a 3 core copper radiator (little thicker than stock) and under drive pullies - I don't want to hit the belt and pulley set up.
Make sure you purchase a fan from a 3.8 liter v6. I got mine from a 91 continental. Its the same as the 3.8 liter Taurus fan. Got it for like 25 bucks at the pick and pull.
I accidently bought the fan from a 3.0 liter Taurus first. This one doesn't work because it doesn't have a low profile motor. MAKE SURE IT IS FROM A 3.8.
There were many available fans. I got one from the a newer, lower mileage car. I also pushed in/out side/side on the fan to make sure it didn't have any play in it. Some seemed a little wobbly and weren't tight.
Got my Taurus fan from a 93 3.8L v6. Works well, however, I could not get it to clear the water pump pulley with a 3 row radiator. I went to O'Reilly and got a stock replacement 2-core radiator for $117 and it fits how I have it mounted.
Just to let you know, my car was wrecked, however I can't see there being much difference in the placement of the radiator.
I flipped mine upside down and mounted the overflow as pictured below:
I mounted the DCC controller (www.DCcontrol.com) on the inner fender beside the battery - no water splashes and generally no physical contact.
I used a sn95 fan I think it was from a v6. Its being run by a flex-a-lite controller. And I run a 3 core brass rad. Fits nice and clears my supercharger crank pulley.
