Im gonna install an electric fan in my 66.I dont have another alt to put in it so Im assuming that the amp rating is stock @ 35 amps.Ive got a yellow top Optima battery(dont know if that helps though).Has anyone else ran an electric fan withoutchanging the atl? And Im gonna put a cd player in it but no amp or subs yet.And yes I will be upgrading to a higher output alt in the near future.

Ideally you should do the alt at the same time as the fan, as otherwise youll be loading up your battery quite often, especially with a stereo. Hold off on the fan till you can do both at once.

I run an electric fan (hot rod air), a CD changer, and an MSD . . . no problems so far . . . since 1993.

Running a "better" alternator isn't a bad idea, though, now that I think about it.

I've had the Hot rod air elec fan on my 65 with the free replacement alternator from Autozone, CD player, 2 subs and an amp. Even with everything turned on and the subs blasting during a fully loaded alt test, the alternator was more than enough to amply charge a regular battery. I've also had the black magic on eon my 72 with no charging problems.
