Electric Smog pump troubles

For the first time since I've had the '97 Cobra, I ran a diagnostic through the OBD-II to see what the check engine light was about and I couldn't make sense of the problem. Says "Code:4011 SAI Upstream Flow Error". I disconnected the wiring to the pump, re-tried, then it gave me "Code:4012 Electrical connection Error (or close to that)". Plugged the pump back in and it gave me the 4011 code again.

Do I have a failed electrical smog pump or is it clogged somehow? Local Ford parts center says a replacement pump is $215. :(

Your diagnosis is my best guess. I've read before of the electric smog pumps on your model year Cobra.

You've got some options though... You should be able to get a chip to disable that code. You could also try to find what sensor is checking on the pump and come up with a way to lie to it and make it think its working.

Do you still have the stock exhaust with cats? Some cats require the smog pump to provide oxygen. Without this they will begin clogging up.
