electric speedo, which sender?

I just got an autometer electric speedo but just realized that I'll need a sender. I have a t-5 which sender do I need?

I'm installing a T-5 next week and have an electric speedo. It uses the same sending unit, but you will need a T-5 speedo cog.
Most electric speedos can be calibrated so the tooth count isn't that big a deal.

I'm confused I don't have a sending unit on my t-5...do I? I have the cable that goes from the tranny to the old speedo what else is there?

I got a sending unit with the VDO set I bought, but it was for a Chevy trans. I called Summit and they traded me one for my C-4.

Yea, the speedo is calibrated to the input, so as long as it physically fits into the T-5, the pulses are sent to the speedo.

On mine the trip button is used to put it in program mode, then you drive one mile and press it again to calibrate.

So do I need the one for ford and will it work with a t-5? I mean does it screw into where the old cable was?

Yes, it goes into the tranny, where the old speedo cable used to. You'll then need to wire up a ground cable, a 12v switched lead and a wire to the gauge.

The T5 used a cable connection up to 1998. The 99 - up Mustangs have an electronic sensor, but it's a different style altogether. Some of the other Ford vehicles used a sensor with the same dimensions as the typical gear driven sensors that hook up to a cable, but they only have the electric output, no cable provision. The VSS is available as Motorcraft number DY-588 and is the sensor you want for that will work with the tranny and Autometer electric speedo
