I'm pretty sure that notion has been kicked around before ,and if it worked the big companies would be selling them. The only problem is that that fan only turns at one speed where a turbo or supercharger turns faster as the engine accelerates. It don't work. Neither does that pos tornado thing that everybody wastes $60 on.

Crap pure crap. There is only one company that makes an electric one and it is for 2.0L or smaller motors it does work but it has a battery pack and only runs boost for 12 seconds or so. I cannot remember who makes it but I did see one at a local car show. Basically it is a turbo with an electric motor and a big ass battery pack. From what I remember it was about 1500 bucks.

A total waste of money IMO.

Probably hurts power more than it helps power.

If you want one of those just go to radio shack and put some 12v computer fan in your intake lol. That's all that POS looks like to me. But at least the rip off artists are trying to be more creative.

A few years back I got interested by the idea. It was dissapointing when everybody was giving me crap vs explaining basics. I went off and
did my own research. The advertised blower is capable of 150CFM. I was actually able to find some 12V marine bilge blowers capable of 400CFM. Not even considering stuggering amps that the blower was consuming, 400CFM is not enough to create positive pressure across the band, necessary for any perf gain on our V8. Based on formulas I got from the web, I calculated approx engine air intake at different RPMs for naturally aspirated engine. Nevertheless,
if 400CFM blower is activated between 1000RPM and 3500RPM, some positive pressure ~0.5 - 1.5 psi should be achievable.

See attached table:

Not to mention that supercharger kits come with bigger injectors, chip, sometimes fuel pump, etc...

More ait needs more gas.

LOL and people buy these. The average supercharger puts out between 700 and 1000 cfm. These units would actually cost you power.

There is no direct relation. Positive pressure ( in psi) is a relation between amount of air engine is consuming (in CFM) , amount of air blower can pump ( in CFM) and pressure the blower can sustain with that amount or air pumped ( in psi)
It is more straight forward in this case though. Engine itself pumps ~500CFM. 150CFM pumpled by this electric blower can't sustain the rate of the engine therefore negative pressure beyong normal is created and engine starves of air.

I am sure if you incorporate a R/C ELECTRIC ducted fan jet motor within the intake tract, and make it work with throttle.. it will provide with lots of pressure.

Some of these things can give 10lbs of pressure, which is lots to propel a heavy r/c jet in the sky.

I did my research a couple years ago, but didnt have any more time to further reasearch it and how to make it work properly with throttle.Altho I did almost incorporate a speed controller to work with the T/B, but it was a hassle.

So i scrapped it, but it would have worked, how effectively... I Dont know, how much power... no idea. How much would it cost? Just about $700 with high speed motor, fan, duct and electronics.

PS: not talking about cheap electric ducted fan motors and fans... but the GOOD STUFF... motor cost like $200 the fan $300.

Its not about CFM's... Its about PSI in the cylinders.

You are stupid in making such statements! Under the circumstances of Mustang's V8 and current technology this will not work well. It doesn't mean that electrical supercharger can't be made!

I believe he was referring to the computer fans on ebay not electric superchargers in general.
