electrical issue

I have recently replaced my motor and wired in some autometers. Now I have no headlights, no dash illumination, no radio, and the dome light will not turn off. I checked all the fuses they are good, I removed the power wires for the autometers and no change. I am stumped on this one.

Did you check the dimmer switch? I had the same issue and mine wasnt plugged in

No info about your car's model year, EFI or carb, no mods listed. Makes it hard to troubleshoot when we don't know what you have.

Therefore, no clue as to which wiring diagram you need. The wiring changed several times between 79 & 95.

That's why it is a good idea to use the sig under the user control panel (User CP) option. It allows you to post your car year & mods, which help greatly when troubleshooting things. No, it is not there for us to snoop and see any "Secrets" you have hidden away under the hood. Be a good stangnetter and update you sig for future reference & don't keep us guessing.

More clues to the puzzle. When I turn the ignition the headlights come on. My son clued me in on that.

I didn't touch any of the under dash wiring. I ran new 12v wirng from the battery.

dont have to touch those for them to go bad looking at them too hard can cause that

Not ruling that out as I've had to replace one on every ford I have owned, but I think the prob is more likely. Underhood. I want to say I put two wrong connectors together,but they different so that can't happen aren't they?

I agree that something under the hood is probably crossed since the dash wiring was not touched. I'd pull the headlight switch and confirm that power into the switch is now accessory-controlled (with the key). Go backwards from there till you find the erroneous connection.............

Not ruling out a broken ground. The 12v wire I ran is a feed for an audio system and two autometer gauges. When you say headlight switch do you mean the one on the dash or is there another under the hood. I remember reading the headlight harness underhood controls a lot.

As an aside, you will want the gauges on a switched source, not powered by the battery directly.

I'd pull the headlight switch. It should have constant power going to it but it sounds like it is controlled by the key. Or just try to trace the source wiring under the hood since you've been in that area already (as you know, the harness goes down the driver's side fender).
