electrical problem please help

Just got her out of storage but few years ago the fuse link blew and a mechanic replaced it with the inline fuse as shown in the pic. Only thing is that the 30 amp fuse blows all the time. Is this because I should have a fuse link there and not the inline fuse? Looking at the diagrams from autozone I am assuming this is fuse link G. The fuse line and the original wire are yellow. It's a 92 by the way.

The fuse holder is starting to melt from the fuse blowing. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks

Does the fused wire look like it feeds several other fusible links?

What all do you lose when it blows?

No it does not feed any other fusible links.

When it blows I lose everything, she shuts down on me and is completely dead, no dash lights or anything.

Thanks that diagram helps a lot although I think that diagram is for a pre 92, since I could not find the 14Ga (o/LB) wire to the fuel pump relay because i know my relay is not under my seat.

Anyway seems like the 18 Ga brown burnt out and the mechanic ran the 12Ga Yellow from the ignition switch straight to the relay, instead of linking it to the 10Ga yellow with the other fuse links. Which would mean the inline fuse is gettin 3x current it should. correct?

So looking at the black connector where the three inline fuses link to the 10Ga yellow there is only two wires and the tiny remnants of the third wire, (you can see it in the picture).

How do I fix this if there is no wire coming out of the black connector?

The wire to your fuel pump may be a different color. In a 90 the O/LB has been G/LG.

You've come across the one discrepancy I've noticed in the diagram. The brown fusible link in the diagram should be a 16 gauge black link. The black link going to the fuel pump should be brown. I hope someone can validate.

You should be able to remove the mod that the mechanic installed and splice in a new link at the correct location the same way the other links are installed. You'll probably have to peel back a few layers of tape to see everything clearly.

The mechanic should not have installed an ATO type fuse anyway. The circuit obviously has substantially more current that the fuse can handle.

definately put in a fusable link vs. that fused line your running. I had the same EXACT problem, and i ran it EXACTLY as you did and kept blowing fuses. I took it to an electrical guy ($150/hr!!!) just to make sure and he said he looked everything over and everything checked out and soldered in a fusable link instead. $280 total. this was like 3 years ago. Just solder in a fusable link and you'll be fine, learn from my mistake.
