As I started off to work this morning my '97 GT's ABS light came on and every time I started to let my clutch out the car tried to die. I limped back to the garage, shut down and then restarted. The car ran fine all the way to work. When I got to work and parked I shut down again and tried to restart just to test the waters. No power at all. Nothing. No warning bell, lights or radio.
I took the battery out and brought it to Sears. They tested it and said it was fine. I put it back in the car, tightened it down and it fired right up. I shut down and restarted at least 7 times, running accessories and the charge needle went right up to where it usually is every time I drive the car.
A little history:
When I first got the car in October of 2003 I had a grounding issue where the engine wouldn't accelerate and all the gauges and lights went haywire. The motor mounts had just been replaced and I had to tighten down the ground strap a little more.
Recently, my fuel gauge has been reading full sometimes on startup and then gradually going back down to where I know it should be.
Alternator? Ground strap again?
