Electronic speedo question

I have been looking at the choices available for replacing the gauge cluster with a six gauge panel. Some of the Autometer speedometers I've been looking at are electronic and require a sending unit for them to operate. I have a GearVendor overdrive in the car and it required a sender to be driven off the speedometer drive, all required parts were included and it was very easy to install.

They provide short speedo cable that their signal generator attaches to and then a connector that couples to the original speedo cable. My problem is how to add a second signal generator to this setup. I've already checked with GV, they said the Autometer speedo will not function correctly if I tapped into the wires of the GV unit.

Does anybody know if this Ford VSS will work?
http://www.ronmorrisperformance.com/miva/merchant.... It looks like I could remove the original cable from the GV adapter and install this in its place. The description states it will work in a C4 trans, so on the surface it seems like this is the solution.

This is the gauge series I am considering, http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=... The gauges in this series have a 270 degree sweep, the fuel gauge will work with any sender, http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=... The lighting will certainly be visible at night.

the ford vss will work with the autometer speedo but i'm not sure if it will work in conjunction with the GV unit

On my Dakota Digital control module, there's a separate tap that is driven off of the VSS. In other words, you drive the speedometer from the VSS, then the auxiliary feed from the separate tap on the control box (in my case the EEC - in yours your overdrive). See if your speedometer has a separate drive. Just a thought...

Based upon your reply it should work. Mechanically fitting is the question, the original speedo cable connects to a coupler from the GV unit, so if the VSS plugs into a C4 trans, than it should work in place of my cable. You also say the signal the VSS generates will drive the Autometer gauge, then I'm good to go. Thanks

I realize this is an old thread but...

Is there away you can modify the signal from the VSS so that it can correct for and AOD transmission and 4.11 gears without having to change out the actual gear in the transmission?

If you are using an electronic speedo the sender will work fine. The Autometer speedo I used has a calibration function so if I change gears I just recalibrate the speedo again. Easy to do, you need an accurate two mile strech of road. With engine off, depress and the trip odometer reset button, turn key on. The needle on the speedo will swing full scale, release button and drive the two mile distance. Stop the car at the exact end of the two mile stretch, depress the button until the odometer flashes. That's it or very close to it. By the way, this was my post originally, the VSS works fine and the speedo is as accurate as my wife's Explorer, she followed me somewhere and we talked on the cell so I could verify the accuracy.
