Hi!

I just disconnected the emission pump in front of the engine due to a bad bearing. Is it safe, mechanically, to operate the car without it. Remember hearing something from GM's V8 engines that the cylinder tops will overheat if the pump is by-passed?

We have no emission laws here, so that does not worry me too much.

You should have no issues....and probably picked up a couple of ponies in the process that is I'm assuming that you are routing the belt not using the air pump? And if not you should....

Been over 3 years since I've seen a smog pump on mine. Then again, there are no emissions to worry about here in Oklahoma.

If you still have on the cats then they could clog up over time due to not heating up enough from the extra air from the smog pump.

How long they last afterwards is a guess.

That is a possible.....I forgot about that since I have been bypassing the pump but running a Pro-chamber.

If you have catalytic converters on the car, I would recommend either fixing the smog pump or ditching the cats.

I think lack of smog pump can cause glowing cats.

lol I thought about this on the way to school this morning and my LX 5.0 doesn't have the air pipe from the smog pump to the cats and the cats don't glow and I don't have any drivability problems, so I'll take my statement back about the glowing cats - although I have heard of similar issues. I'm sure the cats definately need to be replaced though.
