Emissions Test Results

All tests were done at the same Test Facility using the same Test Equipment. Test Operators did very however.
Tested vehicle was an N/A 1987 Mustang Coupe. Mileage was 134,093 on first test, and 136,268 on final test (#4).
Other than the Catalytic Converter being removed, the car was in good running order for first test and all other tests. No Diagnostic codes were present.

Added New O2 Sensor, increased tire pressure to 52psi, disconnected fan to get engine hotter (good for reducing HC). Had run "Guaranteed to Pass" in previous tank (followed directions)

Replaced Factory N/A short block with Used Factory Turbo Block; this was due to a hole in Piston #4. Plugged the fan back in.

A NEW Catalytic Converter from MagnaFlow had just been installed. At the time of the test, the cat had about 125 miles on it.
 
There was no CAT on the first 3 tests.

I guess the whole reason I posted the results was to show how the typical "tricks" don't do nearly enough to get you through.

ALL emissions equipment needs to be present.

Please enlighten me. What does inflating your tire pressure to 52 lbs accomplish and the reasoning behind it, please. Not trying to be a jerk, but I live in California and any trick that I don't know about, I want to learn!
 
It works the same way having properly inflated tires slightly improves your fuel economy. The more pressure, the harder the tire is and the less it flexes as you drive. Think of riding a bicycle with low tires vs. aired up tires. The less power and thus fuel you use maintaining your speed on the smog dyno, the less emissions.

Bingo!
It reduces rolling drag on the dyno.
I got the idea to try that becasue the HC's were so dang high.


I have read many posts from guys saying that a car could pass emissions without the cats. I always thought this was a bunch of hockey, so I took the opportunity to play with some of the "tricks" that had been mentioned.

No way that car would pass without the cat.
