Emissions Testing

I'm curious how much stuff will pass the emissions testing done here in Washington, Clark county if I need to be more specific.

I had the car tested a little over a year ago when I first bought it, and am trying to determine when I'll have to go back and get it done again. I checked their website and couldn't find any information telling me WHEN I would need to go back, assuming I need to at some point. Does anyone know what the cycle is for vehicles returning for Emissions Tests?

Also, for those of you with modified vehicles (which I'm sure is most of us), what have you gotten away with and passed emissions? Right now I have a Halltech Stinger Intake and B&B Bullet Catback setup, but am getting ready to drop the cash on the rest of the exhaust (Longtubes, Hi-Flow Cats, X-Pipe) within the next month. I have no idea what will and won't pass these tests. Anyone have any insight on how it works exactly? Just seems like a gamble doing stuff to your vehicle when you have no idea if you can get it to pass emissions or not. I know getting a proper tune after major work certainly helps (at least I've read it does), but it seems like it could still be a gamble. Curious to hear your thoughts on this.

This is the first time I've dealt with any emissions testing on modified vehicles. My 02 Mustang GT I had passed, but it didn't have any major work done. Only intake, catback, and catted x-pipe. I'm from IA, so this is all new to me! :nice:

on obd2 cars, Washington just scans them and out they go. I have never even seen them look for cats (Oregon does). I dont believe there are noise restrictions either (again, Oregon there is). You should have no problem passing.

Emissions testing is done every other year on the odd or even year, depending on the year of your car. Example: in 2008 my wife's 96 will need a test (even) but my 93 Mustang (odd) will not until 2009.

As far as modifications go, all I can tell you is that with the mods listed in my sig, my 93 passed cleaner than when it was brand new.

Dave they have made some changes to the every other year deal it is not as simple as even and odd now. This is taken from the WA DOE website.http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/air/cars/automotive_pages.htm

Gasoline and diesel vehicles 5-25 years old need an emission test every other year. Your registration renewal notice will tell you if your vehicle needs a test. In 2008, even-numbered model years 1984 through 1994, plus 1997 through 2003 odd-year model year vehicles need an emission test before licensing. No motorcycle or scooter testing required.

And yes OBD II cars just need a scan and if you have no check engine light you should be good to go. They also check your gas cap and lots of cars fail because they will not hold enough pressure, to the auto parts store close to an emissions station and they will have a whole display of gas caps just for this reason.
