Engine balancing

I have a 1995 5.0, could the engine being unbalanced cause the engine to shake, and max out at 3500 RPM? I took the car to a local shop and they said that that was the problem. I would appreciate any help thanks.

my friend had a stock balancer spin on the rubber but it came off

If it's not on it's way out already.

A bad balancer is usually tragic if the engine is ran at all.
And judging by the OP's description of the problem, it's been ran plenty.

It may not die today, and maybe tomorrow, but if the engine was run with a bad balancer it's on borrowed time.

any idea of what brand is the best. And how do i know what size, weight, and internal or external balanced? Thanks for the help.

ATI is probably the best. But it's gonna cost you.
I'm also a fan of the ford racing balancers, there's 2 types, stock style replacement and then there is the steel kind (better).
If money is tight a new stock replacement is fine IMO .

And if you don't want your timing to be a mess, don't get a professional products balancer.

ATI or TCI are both damn good. But pricey. The elastomer type balancers will last way way longer than your OEM ones.
