I just recently got an 82 ford mustang 2.3L carburated automatic. i got it for 400 bucks and the car is in great shape only 76k orig miles. well someone never changed the oil i think and it has a rod knock, actually has a hole in the oil pan now. well anyways i got my hands on a good long block out of an 89 ford ranger. and i was wondering if i could use this block in my car. i was gonna reuse the head of my orig engine and put it on the 89 ranger block. any information would be great, i been trying to look around and i couldnt find exactly what im looking for. also if this block didnt work out could i get a fuel inj. used engine and put it in my mustang, useing my carbuator? i am having a really hard time finding a used engine that is carburated. is the head different on the two? any block differences. thanks --David

Yeah you can use your head on that block. The blocks didnt change, the heads did. There are different heads and just about any intake will bolt up. Whats your intentions with it?
thanks for the info. i would really love to drop a turbo fuel inj 2.3 into it, its such a nice car really clean, for sure in california its whole life, but im broke with court fines, dui and tickets, i probably am gonna put this engine and sell it. kinda sad but i got a few projects, i always wants a 80's early 90's 5.0 mustang but now looking into the 2.3Ls i really like em. i was an entry level tech at a ford dealer for about a year before i started doing heavy equipment moible mechanic work, got to drive a really nice SVO some old ladie had, amazing i loved it. but yeah thank you for that info i got a block from an 89 ranger today looks really good, gonna do the work this week i hope. hopefully it will run as good as it looks.
