1.) is the lower intake port size the same from a gt intake to a cobra intake? for example could i bolt a gt intake to a set of gt-40(iron, not p's) heads and have the port size the same?

2.) can you put a 289 crank in a 302? if so what commonly available rods/pistons do you use? i am guessing same rods diff pistons.

thanks for your help.

1. Yes, you'd likely just face the standard factory mismatch on the ports. At the very least the port on the head will be larger than the intake, so it won't matter.
My guess is that the intake is the restriction, though, so you'd see no improvement in power with the new heads.

2. The crank will fit BUT, the rods ARE different lengths (Same length as the Boss 302, though...). You need to make sure you get 289 specific rods and pistons. Put it in a 302 block and you have a 289. I'm not sure how you'd make an old 2 piece rear seal crank to work in a one piece seal block, though, if that is your plan...

From what i understand, the COBRA intake would b better. The Cobra intake (as it was said) is in the GT40 family of intakes. GT40, Cobra, and ...maybe one other. but u mentioned stock GT and Cobra intakes, if you could get the Cobra, go with it. Best would be to match then intakes with the heads tho and just go all GT40.
Check out the threads on the cheap Explorer intakes, cheap way to get a Gt40 intake

Yeah like most have said, the GT intake will PHYSICALLY bolt up to GT40 Irons but the ports would be much smaller.

I did this actually....very good topic.

before I got my heads ported (ie. stock gt40 iron non P heads) I ran the stock mustang GT lower. However, I had that lower ported by Tmoss. after I got it ported I set things up and looked at port align. and the tmoss stock lower was about a dead match. The car ran great with the tfs 1 cam. IF your going to run stock gt40 heads with the factory lower have Tmoss do it up...it will be the best bang for the buck and a great match to those head ports as well as doing away with that bottle neck of a stock intake.

well here is the plan. i have 2 cars, a 95 cobra now has afr heads/tfs1 cam, boltons etc..

the 94 i have needs a motor, and i have a v2-sq now. i want to buildup a 306, with the cobra heads off my 95 and use a tmoss ported gt intake off my 94 then slap the blower on that motor and put it in the 94.

the 94 won't have ac, p/s, interior, etc... i'm going for pure budget here, just to see if i can make my power goals. if i do and down the road i need more then i will put diff h/c/i on the 94. i got a whole lot of parts layin around and need to get something ready by september to do the Silver state classic.
