Engine install with headers on?

I'm installing a fresh 347 into my 88 GT. Can I put my Mac shorty headers on the motor and then install it? Or do I have to install the motor and then the headers?

either way, with you have to wrestle it around the steering shaft

I've never done it with the headers on, but I would think it would be more of a pain than it's worth. The shorty headers are really easy to install once the motor is in, so I would say install the motor then install the headers. Otherwise I think your just going to make more work for yourself.

i installed with the BBK shorty headers with no problems, maybe an extra 15min of fiddling to get her in but it's worth it IMO. The only thing i recommend is dropping the H pipe, the last time i installed the motor with the H pipe in position and the headers on..what a PITA the exhaust flange studs kept getting caught in the H pipe

I pulled the motor with my headers on so it should go in with em on. Just going to make the job a little bit funner.

I installed and removed my engine with bbk shorties, oh and with the hood on too (hood struts)

If you are planning on installing them with the headers on, I would suggest putting some cloth around the primaries to keep from scratching the headers and the things it comes in contact with.

It should work fine. Either way there will be a bit of wrestling. Trying to get the engine in or trying to get the driver side rear bolt in the header.

i've ALWAYS pulled and installed motors with the headers on, no problem...as long as they're shorties.

Ive dropped a motor in with equal lengths with no wrestling at all, thing just dropped right in.
