Hey all, I'm going to describe this the best I can. First, the back story.
I picked up this 90 5.0 notch thinking it was in better shape than it is. It seemed to run decent but overly rich as it almost burns my eyes from the raw fuel. After going over the car for a few weeks installing 2 1/2" from the shorty BBK headers to the Flowmaster 44's and tailpipes, no cats, I noticed it had new o2 sensors but they weren't plugged in. After hooking up the o2 sensors it started missing on occasion, mainly while cruising around 1700 rpm, spitting and sputtering with the occasional backfire.
The car came with a box of parts mostly used. I assume the used parts were recently replaced with new. Spark plugs, wires, along with numerous sensors and such. Appears the PO knew the running condition of this engine.
I purchased a code reader, as the CEL doesn't work, and came up with a host of codes. After a month I am down to this last code, code 41, lean passenger side 02. The part that baffles me is the miss will come and go. Almost always within the first minute of driving it will sound as though it's missing on 1 or 2 cylinders for maybe a few minutes then clears up and runs great, smooth idle and all. I've searched many forums with problems similar to mine but not quite. I'm trying to think what else I could add to ease a diagnosis from anyone willing to help.
I've set timing back to 10*, set idle and the sensor to .98, replaced both temp sensors as they were part of the previous codes I had, new cap, rotor, wires, swapped coils, inspected and gapped plugs that looked new although the gap was a little tight. Any ideas?
