Hey guys. a couple weeks ago my car started making these strange sounds. right now my engine sounds so ****ty I hardly enjoy driving it anymore...it used to have smooth powerful sound. Now whenever I accelerate it makes this loud clicking noise..As soon as you let off the gas it goes away. But it’s so damn loud. Push down on the gas again and there it is the clicking starts again..any ideas what it could be?

Sounds like something in the valvetrain, possibly a bad lifter.

Must be all that camel toe you had on it.

no seriously if you're gonna own an old car learn it know what a lifter sounds like as oposed to main bearings ---valves tick, mains have deep knock, rod sknock but much faster. also it could be loose torque convertor nuts /flywheel bolts if its an auto but they usually knock as soon as you touch the gas and let up.

do you have oil pressure is oil getting to the top you're not giving us much to go on. my engine sound like crap too but I know what it is when it does

to know it is to love it.

Possibly an exhaust gasket. A popped header gasket of manifold gasket will make a "tick" like sound.

That`s what I was just thinking! Where`s your initial timing at?

How much timing with full advance?

If you don`t have a timing light,just make a mark for reference on the distributor and back up your timing a little(counterclockwise) and test drive it....if it stops you can readjust by advancing again to the point where there`s the most initial advance before pinging starts.

First check the header gaskets, I thought I had a bad lifter, it was just a header gasket.

If that doesn't look like it's it, I'd say lifters. I don't think it's pinging, unless it's REALLY pinging badly.

thanks guys turns out it was the headers, my girlfriend bottomed out on someones muffler in the road and forgot to tell me. guess who is never driving the mustang again..lol
