Looks like a 302 to me...

am I crazy? Maybe it's an optical illusion, but the intake looks too narrow for a 351W.
Is there something I can check to find out for sure .... that would make a difference, for sure
If the outermost bolt on the timing chain cover next to the water passageways is flush with the deck of the block (where the head bolts on) then it is a 302/289. If there is an inch or so of space to the deck then its a 351.

Definately not a C based on the waterneck housing.

I almost think that this engine is a 289/302 because I don't think the valve covers are close enough to the shock towers to be a 351w. But my perception could be all screwed up casue I have tall valve covers.

holy cow

ok thanks again for the info

If I go this weekend to check out the car, I'll take and post more pics, then maybe I can get more help on the subject

its SUPPOSED to be a 70 Vert "H" Code, which should be a 351 2bbl

VIN is 0F03H104041

there may be more room between a 70's shock towers. I dont really know. I thought you were refering to a '68 because of your name. If thats the case my whole valve cover theory is useless...but the other part is still valid.

Oil filter on a 302 is also right inbetween the head and the bottom of the block. The 351 will be offset by about an inch.

H code could be a W or C but that looks likes a Windsor to me. Whatever it is, that is most likely NOT the original air cleaner that came on the car. The 351W 4 barrel was dropped in 1970. The Cleveland could be had 2V or 4v. The Windsor was only ofered in 2v. It could have been a leftover engine that was put in there though. Penny for your thoughts.

the air cleaner base is definitely a 70 part due to the location of the breather tube, on a 69 it would be in the front instead of on the side. so either the air cleaner top was changed for a 69 windsor piece or a 70 cleveland piece, or most likely the sticker was changed.

another way to identify if it is a 351 windsor or a 289-302 is to check and see if there is an angled piece of webbing on the block above the timing cover on the driver side of the block.

I always thought 70up Stangs were Cleveland and the Windsors were saved for LTDs, Mercurys, and such.
Probably wrong, but thought I would throw that out.
Good luck

351w, like said above, were only offer in a 2v version for 70.

the intake in the picture looks aftermarket. someone has just slapped on a sticker.

I've owned 2 70 windsor 2bbl's, the ragtop I have now and a mach 1 I bought in 72. the mach was kind of odd, it had the windsor 2bbl with a shaker and a 3 speed standard. I think the original owner was on drugs

Another odd thing about that car, both the 70's I've had were a crossflow radiator, the 69's were a downflow like that one. has anyone else had a 70 with a downflow?
