Engine pings like mad!!

I installed the Demolet CAI with X-cal 2 93 octane tune, around 4k RPMS engine pings and smells like rotten eggs, could it be running lean?? I have 6gal of 93 octane gas I had about 1/2gal or 87. I emaile John Demolet but wondering did anybody else have a problem??

I remember when I put mine on originally it did the same thing, it pinged like crazy when I put the 93 tune in, but I had more than a 1/2 a gallon of 87 left. I probably had an 1/8th of a tank and then I filled it up with 93 right before loading the tune. I loaded the 87 tune and it ran a lot better. I ran it down to 3/4 tank and loaded the 93 again and it ran even better with no pinging.

I'm not entirely sure if that's what's going on with you, but it kind of sounds like it. Did you get an 87 tune you could load in it to test?

You can't run ANY low octane gas with a high octane tune. Even using a high octane is no guarentee. Since stations are inconsistant with their quality.

I'd get a 91 oct tune to be safe. It will give you plenty of power and no welding of the motor.

When you run down to 0 miles to empty, you have about 1.6 gallons left. The proper way to install a 93 octane tune in these cars is to run down to 0 gallons left, fill up to 93, run that down to 0 miles left, fill up with 93 and load the tune. You need to go back to a lower octane tune until the 87 is gone. If you can't do that, do not run your car hard until the next fill up. Whatever you do, run it down to 0.

I followed those steps, outlined by Doug, and had absolutely no problems with my 93 tune.

1.6 gallons at 0 miles left??? I had 11 miles to empty so perhaps I do have too much 87 octane mixed in with my 93. Anybody think a can of octane boost will work I only have 1/4 tank left.

When you are less than 1/8th a tank add the octane booster and fill that ****** with 93 from Sunoco or Exxon. You should have no problems after that. If you do than your gas station is ripping your ass off. I have a 07 and I know those guys whom sold me the car didnt fill mine up with 93 when I bought it. I have never run it empty so I'm in the same boat as you but I have no problems with pinging. Try it. Peace ya heard

Octane boost is NOT good for your engine, especially spark plugs. The only thing that's safe is Torco fuel additive. The other thing you can do is add a gallon or two of unleaded race fuel. But the safest thing is to switch back to a 87 or 89 octane tune and wait until all the all the lower octane gas is gone. And believe me when I say at 0 miles to empty you have 1.6 gallons left. I've gone well below 0 to get all the 89 out of my car. Ford built that in because they know people will go as close to 0 as possible.

Do not add octane booster! It will foul the spark plugs!
