I have been searching for engines for a littlw while now. I have looked at multiple places and called a couple. I was wondering if anyone has heard of
"Miles Eastside Auto"? I got a quote from them and this is what they said:

99 COBRA 4.6L 4V QUOTED

Year, Make, Model: 99 Ford Mustang
Engine Size: 4.6
TBI, EFI, Carb: EFI
Automatic or Standard Transmission: Standard
2 Wheel Drive or 4 Wheel Drive: 2 Wheel Drive
Overdrive Yes/No: No

The price is $2895.00

Core charge $1050.00

They say that the engine will take 1-4 days to get to wherever. Also they have free shipping on all their units. The price seems too good to be true.
Also, I am pretty sure that this engine would fit straight into my car, just want to verify?? Thanks in advance!!!

Yea, thats a pretty good price.

Since its a 99 cobra motor make sure it has 'the fix', so it's making all of it's advertised power.

No, they are located in New York....he says that I won't have to pay tax of course and free shipping. It just almost sounds too good to be true. He says all his engines come with a 3 year warranty... I mean if he is legit, this would be a steal.

Assuming it's in good condition, that's a decent price. If it has over 50k miles on it that's too much.

Kar Kraft has a '04 Mach 1 engine with 312 miles on it for $2995. But you'd have to have it shipped.

Where is Kar Kraft located? Which has more power, the 99 Cobra or the 04 Mach 1?

Nevermind on that quote....whoever at that place quoted me the wrong price. I just got off the phone with them and they say "$3110 for the engine and then $2,500 for the core charge". So out of my pocket, we are looking at $5,600 for a comlete Cobra engine. I don't know about that!!

They're located in Michigan. Seems like I heard that they are/were somehow part of Ford at one time. But I don't know how reliable that information is. They usually have a nice selection of take off parts and engines. Their web site is http://www.karkraft.com

Between a 99 Cobra engine and a 04 Mach 1 engine, technically the 99 Cobra should have a few more horsepower -- but it gets that at the expense of any kind of low-end torque. I used to own a 99 Cobra and you have to really rev the SOB to get any speed out of it. From everything I've heard, the Mach 1 setup is probably better.

I am surprised that that price is considered a good deal. I could build a 408 stroker short block for less than that. You just need a block, not heads, right? You could do it yourself for a fraction of that cost. Take the engine out, have someone rebuild the short block and put it back in. Not much risk in that. You can take the heads to Progressive Auto who specializes in multi valve heads. That'll give you a big boost in performance.
