Here is the senario,

Just recently my engine cuts out intermittently, first started Sun eve driving about 120 miles on freeway. About 3-4 times during the course of the drive the engine would just stop.
I would pull over and start it up again. Drive a while longer and happened again.

Here is the backstory, the car sat for several years around march/april put on new edelbrock intake manifold and carb, pertrnoix ign, drained gastank new fuel pump & filter. Have been driving the car since around May doing fine then and this stalling problem began. Has not happened while idling just while driving on the freeway and today it happened once on side streets.

What are the things that I should check for at this point.

Check the Fuel filter. At highway speeds it can starve the engine but run fine at idle.

I have a clear housing on the fuel filter and the filter looks OK. Actually after I got more gas a day or two ago the problem has stopped for now. I'll have to see what happens.

It's likely that the 'several years' it sat without running was enough time for the interior of the fuel tank to corrode. It's probably either clogged the sock inside the fuel tank that draws fuel into the line, or there's a partial blockage in the line somewhere. Take note of when the problem happens - I'd bet it's happening when your fuel level is at less than, say, 1/4 tank. Right? If it only happens when the tank is near empty, the problem is that it's starting to draw the pile of accumulated muck from the bottom of the tank into the line...

The only reliable fix (if my diagnosis is correct) is to replace the fuel tank, pickup and probably the fuel line.

I pulled the tank right before I got it running again in May. There was not a lot of evidence of corrosion. I pulled the sending unit and it did not look to bad. I kind of swished the tank with some gas and poured it out the only thing that came out was a piece of metal round in shape about the size of a pea. It looked like something that came off of a seam or something. When I looked into the opening from the fuel sending unit I could not see evidence of corosion. But again I was not using fiberoptics or mirors so I did not visualize the entire tank.

So it is likely that there may be some muck in the tank, but I figured if that was the case that it wouldn't have happened sooner than 5-6 months. It is not the first time that the tank went below 1/4. It's probably a good idea to pull the tank and replace the sending unit. When I checked it before the sock was not clogged and was still in place but it did look a little fragile. I also checked the fuel lines by blowing some air through them an replacing the short sections of the soft fuel line connection points.

I'll just keep watching things. When it started happening a fuel issue was the frist thing that came to my mind
