hi

I have a 90lx, 2.3 5speed, that I want to swap a carbourated 302 into within the next year. I am new to this, and will have a friend help me that is mechanically inclinded, but has never done one of these swaps. We want to know all the parts that are required for such a swap, is the clutch the same, different, bellhousing(i know this must be changed), breaks, other stuff.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks in advance

If you are going with a 5.0L carbed set up...then I would just buy all new parts and run all your own stuff. You can use all your stock dash wiring and selenoid stuff. You will just have to custom wire all your ignition and electrical stuff.

A EFI swap you can just get a donor car and take EVERYTHING off of that. That would be more work, but it would be cheaper.

Here is my EFI swap.

Try doing a search. Most of the EFI swaps will cover the mechanical stuff to. You can get away with keeping some of the 4 cylinder stuff like brakes, but it is best to upgrade after all you are making the car faster/more powerful so you'll need the stronger stuff.

I would definatley upgrade the brakes. Those 9inch brakes aren't going to do anything. Just install the spindles struts rotors and calipers. The LCA and K-members are the same. You have to use the struts from the v8 with the v8 spindles because the spread of the holes is different. I found that out this weekend!!

the swap is very straight foward if you have the donor right next to it. A friend and I did mine in a few days, suspension and all. just do a little reading and you should be fine. I had a great time doing it and and looking for a 4cyl notch to do another. always better to start with a manual car to begin with. Pedal swap sucks but I blv there is a site above that helps make it easier putting the pedals back in. good luck.

Yes, that one came from Copart. Dirt cheap cause it looked like a POS...come to my surprise the under side, is cleaner than my 96 Cobra!!!
