I have a 2000 Mustang. What would I have to replace (besides the intrument panel and engine) if I swapped my V6 with a GT or Cobra engine? Would this be a reasonable thing to do considering cost? What do normal GT and Cobra engine cost?
no its not reasonable. you need a new k-member, trans, diff, wiring harness, ecu. you can get a N/A DOHC 4.6 with trans and computer from FRPP for about 6k. its not worth it in my opinion. just buy a GT or Cobra and pay the extra insurance money and know that you dont have to hack up your car to do it.
As said before, I do not recommend it. I never did it myself, but read a lot about the ones who did. Chances are it will not pay off. Reason being is the massive work that is required. The only time it's worth it is when you either get the engine for cheap, and you know exactly how to do it. So if you want V8 power just buy a GT or Cobra.
also jsut to add, a lot of race teams use v6 bodies because they are gonna strip everything out of it anyway, and v6 stangs are cheaper to buy than a gt or cobra.
Why swap it out with a GT or Cobra engine? If your gonna do all that work, go big man...drop in a Powerstroke V8 engine from a Super Duty 350....I don't think that has been done before....be creative
Maybe it's better to add power by a cold air intake, some small adders like that and put exhaust on it that makes it sound good and down the road when I get the cash maybe add a supercharger or something?
don't even consider it...got big like the one guy said....I did it and it was more work and $$$$ than was imagined. There are a ton of things that need replaced that you would never even consider (exhaust bolts on differently to the engine, etc). Just sell your v6, don't do any mods, save your money, and buy the 8 when you are ready.
It was my first car so I won't be selling it anytime soon. I have put a lot of aftermarket stuff in it and have spent a decent amount of money for that stuff so my V6 will by my car dedicated to looking sweet and the '67 will be the sweet looking car that is fast too.
