Figured I'd stir things up for him. A supercharger can be adapted to put out the boost necessary for a wide range of HP levels.

You can stay within the stock block limits.

I understand his point of building a suitable motor, first. We all know that stock e7 heads and a stock cam will only carry you so far. Gt40 heads and explorer intakes take things a little higher. Now.... a motor with HCI would produce more with boost than stockish combos.

That's my issue in my thread. My motor is built and with my turbo at 6psi I'll probably split my block.

Seems like he wants the motor to look as good as it runs, " major engine upgrade and major power increase".

Correct me if I'm wrong but he want power, beauty, and function.

I applaud him for not wanting to put some spray paint and aluminum valve covers on his motor and acting like its built....with a SC bolted to the intake.

A SC would gain a lot with the mods he wants to do. Building a foundation for boost is always better, even if its just a small bump over the factory 225hp.

This exactly. I'm not just looking for a power gain and nothing else. I'd love to get a supercharger at some point but I'd much rather replace 30 year old heads, intake, etc while simultaneously increasing power. I'd much rather take that path and leave the possibility of a sc open rather than go the opposite route. I do appreciate everyone's feedback.

Math for anyone who cares......

225x (boost psi/14.7)=a
225+a=new hp....

Just 6psi gets you 315hp...
Crank up the boost to 10psi 385hp.

Think your math is wrong...
225* (10/14.7) =
225* (.68)=
a=153
225+153= 378

He should know that when you add better flowing heads it takes more boost to make the same amount of HP gains vs. starting with more restrictive E7 heads . I made 292 rwhp prior to my V3 and I don't make 490 rwhp now with 10# of boost. I was around 470 before dialing the tune back.

I did the top end on my car and then added a blower later. I like to think that if I could go back and do everything over again, I'd get a blower first and hopefully just leave it alone lol

It's just to ballpark the numbers, it's about volume of air. 600cfm will make x hp no matter what the boost level is. Boost is simply a ratio of how restricted the engine is. One thing to remember also the more pressure you make the more heat you build and that alone will cost you power.

But enough derailment...... what hci you thinking about getting?

Not sure if that question was directed at me but I'm looking at the Trick Flow Top End engine kit.

I got mine from Summit but only because I has a 500 dollar gift certificate. If you get it from Late Model Restoration you'll get a bit of a discount and they include the timing and water pump gasket which Summit did not include.

I always thought go topend first...but I think the opposite is a better option. Go blower with supporting mods...then later(if at all...depending on your power bug affliction ) add the topend kit/motor upgrades. But either way is ultimately ok IMO.
