Hello,
I'm new to this board and would greatly appreciate any feedback. I had not run my 1990 Mustang GT (with AOD) for awhile, so its battery's voltage ended up being low when I tried to start it. Hoping I could get the engine started even with this low voltage, I turned the key. The engine turned over for a couple seconds, but then stopped turning over, at which point a clicking sound starting being made.
Next, I went ahead and connected another car's battery to my Mustang's battery to jump my drained battery and get the Mustang started. I connected the cables, but since it was dark, I accidentally connected the other car's negative terminal to my car's positive terminal, and vice versa. With the cables still connected like this, I tried again to start the Mustang, again having no luck (for good reason, given the mismatched connection). Immediately after this, I noticed a little smoke coming from under my Mustang's hood, and discovered my blunder of mismatching the terminals. I quickly removed the (quite warm) cables.
After this, I let the Mustang's battery cool off, and I charged it with a 12V charger. Once charged, I tried starting the Mustang. This time the engine did not turn over, and I heard no clicking sound.
What would you recommend I check to now solve this problem in which the engine won't even turn over?
Thank you much,
Brian
