Can someone explain to me the benefits of getting a forged/stroker shortblock engine for my 01' GT? (HP/torque increases to a completely stock GT) Probably an obvious question, but should that be before/after a supercharger?

for a N/A aplication is not really something that alot of people do because the gains are minimal, our blocks dont need any more stroke what they need is bore.. But on the other hand having a forged/big bore shortblock on a FI car that is a different story you can run more boost than what you would on a stock block and as far as when to do it if you have the money before the S/C

I agree with the above post. the biggest problem with the 4.6 is the small bore. this small bore limits the size of valves too. one of the big reasons why the LS-1 heads flow so well is port design and valve size. we are resticted in both by ford long stroke small bore design of this motor

material choice such as forged has to do with strenght and durability.

"stroker" is a term that applies to an enine that has a different stoke that stock. the gains of a stroker are minimal IMO. it does not seem to be the best way to make power on small bore engines. they really need more bore so you can add more valve I think. I am no expert but I am an chevy guy as well and that is why it is so hard to make the 305 a fire breather. small bore. where a 327 has same bore as a 350 just smaller stroke. you can make a 327 build way better power than a 305.

there are big bore kits but the HP gains are minimal compared to price. If married to the N/A concept maybe but boost will make more power cheaper.

Forging if you are boosting or trying to build a high reving engine is a plus. you run much more boost safely on a forged engine. you can build a 7000rpm engine as well. that is well beyond the limits of the stock componets. 6500rpm is proably pushing the limits of the stock rods. 6500rpms boosted is really not recomended.

as to when you do it most will say before you supercharge. I agree and dissagree. It is safer but money does not grow on trees. I mean if spending $2500-$3500 on a shortblock is going to delay your supercharger for 2 years that is alot of money to pay for not much power. I would rather supercharge and run lower boost levels for 2 years and then forge at the end of that time.

for example at 6psi you would have to really do something stupid to blow you enine most likely. that is proably ~100hp though. wouldn't you rather have an extra 100hp wile saving for you shortblock?
