We are all also forgetting that a 98 LS1 is different than an 02 LS1... I know the intake is different, maybe even other things. The 98 and 02 will be a few tenths difference all else being equal.

a few late model 01 and all 02's recieved the LS6 corvette intake. it basically is missing the egr provisions and has a slightly smoother design that promotes flow. not a real huge mod by itself, maybe worth about 10hp. 98vs02 I would say is a drivers race.

From what I have seen and from what my Fbody friends tell me a 98 vs an 02 would go to the 02 every time. I have no experience with either other than having driven different years of them. My understanding was an 02 would be a couple tenths quicker and a mph or two higher trap.

there may be a difference in tune, but the physical difference between the early
Ls1's and the 02's was the Ls6 intake. Which was a steal. when the LS1 was still in production the Ls6 vette intake was selling for about $500. There was also a very small amount of F-bodies that were produced that featured the actual "corvette" Ls1 which had the better intake, headers, and camshaft. These cars would consistantly trap better due to the much more aggresive cam profile.
Adding to this there was also less service recalls on the 00+ ls1's due to working bugs out of the platform.

It's gonna take a good h/c/i setup to beat an ls1 car, i've had my share of losses to them when my car was just a minor bolt on setup, and i've had my share of wins after the h/c/i.
But my car isn't the most street frienldly setup, loves to be driven hard, but if you get stuck in traffic, you may become suicidal. But i do not drive it daily or into heavy traffic areas.

The trick flow top end kit is capable of high 12's and 110mph in the quarter, that should be enough to do it, add a better cam to the mix and 12.50's or quicker in a street (not drag) setup is very possible.
I've seen guys with high 11's, but i wouldn't say that is the typical result.

ive eatin my share of LS1s. but its taken a lot more than just slappin on a blower.

motor to motor i pull on stock LS1s. i raced a trans am and i started pulling on him, so the facker sprayed it and said he won, even tho it was agreed upon he wasnt going to spray. (atleast he admitted it, lol)

but if it has anything done to it say a cam, LS6 intake, gear, lid, stall, full exhaust. i cant keep up even with a 150 shot. (i raced a camaro with this exact setup and i lost by a car)

edit: ive got the typical H/C/I with all the goodies. i run mid 12s on motor. i didnt get to the track this year with the nitrous, but im sure its atleast in the mid 11s on the juice.

it doesnt take all that much to run an ls1. i had a friend at a tech school with a 93 gt with about 85,000 on the od with bbk cai, h pipe flowmasters, 3.73 gears and a 150shot of juice and used to spank them all day long. i was in the car with him a few times and watched him embarass them. they were not heavily modded though mainly just exhaust etc.

his car dynoed at 215hp at the wheels w/o the gas. on the 150shot it was about 325 to the wheels and 480ft lbs. those numbers may be off by about 5hp as it was a bout 6 years ago but they are close. i remember seeing the dyno sheets.

I would hope a 150 shot and some bolt-ons would take one out...

The '02 would be the better of choices. The ls6 intake (which has more plenum volume and came on the zo6), and the '98's have a less desirable computer module.

Typically a trickflow kit nets most within 106-109 mph at full weight.

I have seen to many street and track encounters with ill performing ls1's. That does not mean that the ls1 is not faster.

As I have stated, a stock one has hit 111 mph once, stock.

I have beat two zo6's in my racing days both from a stop and a roll. Does that mean my car is faster? Heck no

The driver "mod" plays a big factor in it along with condition.

Here is my opinion...

If you can trap 110+ mph, you should have no problems beating an ls1 at it's own game.

If you trap less than that, you can come across one that is going to beat you, bone stock.

Just a matter of being at the right place at the right time...

The ls1 is not invincible, but it runs what it runs.

They are in another league compared to a stock 5.0L, aside from the obvious.
