So my buddy and I just got done putting bbk equal length headers on my car today.... freak 8 hours. Took us forever and a day to get the passenger side one on cuz I wouldn’t line up with the bolt holes. And then when we were all done we couldn't get the hpipe collector to line up with the studs on that header. Did everything I could to get it on, except taking the header off (which will be done over my dead body). So my question is, didn't anyone else have this problem with them and how did you fix it?

Not sure how you did it but here is what I have found to work.

I always start with the toughest bolt. This is usually the one that i can't reach in the back of the head. Once the back bolt is in place I start the front bolt. If need be I can get a pry bar on the front, but it would be tougher to do in the back. Then I drop the gasket in place and start the rest of the bolts into the head. Do not tighten them yet. Next get under the car and loosen the h-pipe to cat-back, if not already done. This will allow more freedom to position things into place. Once every bolt has a couple of threads started, I tighten everything up from the back to the front. It may not matter if you tighten the heads first or the hpipe first, but I start in the back and work forward. Personal preference.

I know it does not help you, and you may have even done it exactly as I had described, but it may help next time, or when someone else does it.

Jobs like this are tough the first time you do it, after that you get better at it. At least you didn't give up :nice:

I have BBK Equal length Headers on My 90GT and I hate them! took me 9 hours to get them on. one of the tubes on the passenger side is so close to the fire wall that is the engine make its power it torques to the passenger side and touches the fire wall and transmits vibration to the car. about 4 months after the install I noticed that the high pressure AC line was rubing on that header tube and I went to bend it out of the way and noticed the hard way that the tube had warn into the AC line and as I bent it it poped a hole in the line and I lost all my R -12 refrigerant :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :fuss:

Exaust manifolds/headers are always lots of fun. The siezed bolts, rust, everything in the way... can't beat it.

A big difference can be the tools you are using.

i had alot of fun installing my long tubes, but i could've expected that, disconnecting the steering linkage blows a$$.

but, i always found that installing EVERYTHING finger-tight, then tightening it up helps out more than imaginable-when i went to put the h-pipe on my long tubes, i almost pulled the car off the jack stands trying to get the h-pipe flanges to line up with the collectors...

the next time they came loose, i fingered them on first, loosely installed the h-pipe, then tightened the headers down, then tightened the h-pipe...

but, like a few others have said-if they ever come off again for whatever reason, you'll inherantly be able to do the whole thing a little easier due to prior knowledge

now i don't feel so bad... well i ended up taking it to an exhaust shop that i know and the guy got the bolt on in less then 5 mins... a few good smacks with a pry bar and bam it was in.
