Well, I have just finished my second essay for North Carolina State University. I am applying for early addmision, and MUST have the entire thing submited by Oct. 31. There is no set topic or prompt to write for, just a "personal statement".

I have 2 essays, one taking the sympathy route, and another which I wrote as a practice essay, timed. All are first drafts.

This brings me to my real question: Do any of you guys have any input, or could help me edit? Strong writters would be helpful.

I can e-mail both essays as attachments to anyone who can or would be willing to help. It is late for me, and I'm going to sleep. I will check the thread in the morning, before school, and also when I get back from school. At those times I will send the essays out.

THANK YOU :SNSign:

*Daggar, Timeless2, Fiveofanatic, please don't lock this thread. I know it has nothing to do with 5.0 mustangs, but I do need the help. If this thread is better suited in the make believe land, please move it there.

Try throwing away your intro and conclusion. Often they make short essays look dumb. See if it looks better w/o them. If so, they need work.

Use detail. Show don't tell.

Talk about something you like and know. Forced essays sound forced. And don't plagerize or use a writting service. These guys seem hundrds of essays and can spot "canned" essays pretty well. You won't impress if you start your collegic career w/ fraud.

And lastly, read it backwards. You'd be amazed at the gross errors you and others can miss when you get wrapped up in the essay instead of reading it critically. Reading it backwards keeps the forest from getting in the way of the trees.

Don't worry too much about it. You'll do fine and the essay is one of many parts to the application.

I'm a very strong writer, especially creative writing. Fire them my way if you please, I'll take a look at them after work.

Good tip, However its best to not procrastinate and write it at the last minute. If you write a draft, a few days later (3 has been found to be the most effective) read it. Errors seem to jump out at you that way. Always read aloud too, keeps your brain correcting small errors before you realize them.

Thats why I didn't go to State. Stupid essays. UNCC didn't make me write an essay and sent back my acceptance in a week or so. UNCC's better anyway except for the whole no football team thing

I would just say to be original. These guys have to read hundreds of these a day and have heard the same things over and over again. Its like the people that were doing the med school interviews who asked, "Why do you want to become a doctor?" and everybody always says, "Because I want to help people." They expect that so you don't stand out. Tell them the truth and make it something that they would actually enjoy reading. Make them want to go back and read it again and go, "Wow! Who wrote this?!?!" and your name will be stuck in their heads. Essays are fun!!!

Writ about yer last six years of hi scool and what u been done learnt.

Tell them that yer thinking that maybe a cullge degre culd hep you to git a job as a wrastler in the WWE.

But I digest!

Most colleges, especially liberal ones, if you write about how everyone should be held accountable for everyone else's action and no one is responsible for their own actions due to a Democratic society they will welcome you in with open arms.

Write about how much better America would be if it were a Socialist party than a Republic. Hell, they might offer you a teaching position just on your paper.
