No lie, I once saw a similar floor pan repair to yours that had been done with one of those sheet metal "FOR SALE" signs. I about crapped my pants laughing when I looked under the car.

I am asshamed to admit, but I have used steel cookie sheets to repair floors in the passed. My first car a POS '76 honda civic both side of the back seat floor and an 84 Subaru Bratjust a small hole on the driver's side floor,(it needed aquick fix to pass inspection).

We don't have vehicle inspections here. Some states have emission inspections, but no structural/mechanical inspections.

The *structural* part - yes, that's what is usually missing in U.S. vehicle inspections, at least where floorpan rust is conserned. Let us give thanks, because those lax inspections have permitted many of our cars to survive long enough to be properly repaired.

The UK government are using these inspections to force older cars off the road, they are putting a lot of pressure on the testing stations to find faults to fail them - in the good old days you'd get a bit of 'allowance' because it's an old car, but now it's getting harder and harder to get older cars through.

My brother and I just got done doing a ton of cutting and welding of floor pans and rail reinforcment on my 67 coupe.

He brazed all the floorpans and patches in the body, and when I drove the car to the body shop after seam sealing and rust painting there wasnst a squeak or rattle anywhere.

He used welding rods on all the stuff underneath.

It took some time but it was worth it.
