Ever raced a classic?

I suppose it would be easier to rate cars in rear wheel HP, but I doubt the car companies would do it, because it would reduce the HP ratings of new cars, so I doubt the car companies would rate them that way.

It seems there was an article in either 5.0 or MM$FF a couple of years ago that compaired a GT350 and an 02 GT. As I recall the GT350 ran high 14s while the 02GT ran High 13s. Not sure about skid pad and other tests.

Well at least they are rating the engines in net HP.

Personally, I would much rather have a classic like yours than any newer car. I drove a freshly restored '68 GTO 'vert over the summer. It was restored to stock specs. The GTO seemed heavy and underpowered. It did have good torque and would roast the redlines. However, a 99-04 GT would kill it in a race, but that doesn't matter. This was the coolest car I've ever driven. I loved the way it idled, drove, turned, etc... There was something to it that the newer cars don't have.

I guess it really comes down to what's important to you. For power/speed you can't go wrong with an 03-04 Cobra

Speed isn't as important to me now as it was. My next car will definitely be a 60's-70's muscle car.

i love my car to death. my first car actually. bought it for 3800 and put another 3k into it...
nothin like cruin the street in a classic and getting all the looks. but a newer car is more reliable then a old one. only thing i was getin at is if my car was hit on the road (their fault) and i got money back should i get a svt or mod a gt to pieces.

i toyed with the idea of getting a 67 over my cobra. it basically came down to the fact that i'd pay about the same for each in good condition. maybe a bit more for the cobra, and i'd then have to dumb a few grand into it for parts just to get it where i wanted the car to be. my knowledge is just so limited on the classics and most people that have them are a bit older, and grew up with them so they have extensive knowledge. i went with what i knew.

how's this. my brother's first car was a preeetty black 67 coupe. only exhaust. he then had a 93 5.0, with flowmasters and k&n. i woulddrive the 5.0 and he the classic, and the 5.0 would eat it. he now has a 97 cobra, and yeah. enough said.

Well there is a lot in the approach too. Most classics are more sought after and fetch more money when restored and in stock form. And let's face it, the common classic was often outfitted with choked up exhaust, highway gears, peg leg rearends and 2bbl carbs. However one of the great things about the older muscle is potential, especially in larger engines. Check out anytown USA on a Friday night test and tune and you'll still see some old muscle unleashed and tearin' it up. The '03-'04 Cobras are a steal tho and offer excellent ride & comfort, 6 speeds, 3.55 gears and a factory-equipped blower, did I mention the warranty ? .

With the mods on the '65 you're probably talkin' mid 14's where a stock '04 Cobra is good for high 12's in the 1/4 mile. My '04 gets 19-20 mpg going back & forth to work which is geally great for how fast the car is.
I had a '70 with a built 428cj, man I loved that car but it was only slightly quicker than the '04 if at all and much slower on top speed. Technology is a wonderful thing .

i get like 12 -14 mpg at best...technogly is great but..dont wanna be flamed but..
the looks of a big block motor stuffed in a engine bay is awesome
