Everyone getting a deeper oil pan should read this.

I have my engine out for some issues regarding oil. I have a 7 qt. moroso oil pan but I re-used the stock oil pick up tube and a high volume oil pump. DONT DO THIS!!!! My car leaked oil badly and this pump made it even worse! Second, because it drank so much oil and i didn't have the right pick up installed, it would run dry for moments when I hit the brakes and the oil sloshed forward. Before I did my research and found out what the problem was, I would add oil to this and that made the oil leaks even worse. After about 2 minutes of driving, the car would misfire like crazy from oil getting into the cylinders. (due to wayy too much oil in the crank case) The dipstick they sent with my car didn't come with the brass NPT fitting so I never knew quite how to install the thing. I had never built an engine before and I was 17 years old. I didn't know the HV oil pump was a bad thing for a street engine and that there was a longer pick up tube that absolutely HAD to be installed with the oil pan. You would think it would come with it if it needed it! I have known about this since last fall and I finally have time to fix this stuff. It will be done within the week and maybe finally after years I can enjoy the fruits of all my labor. Don't screw up like I did. A learning experience is one thing, but pulling an engine out to learn a lesson is NOT fun. Also, there is a 2004 Anderson Ford PMS system waiting to get installed as a celebration bolt on.

If you would have checked the required 3/8"-1/2" pick-up to pan clearance you would have known right away.

ALL Deep pans require a new pick-up and most require a dipstick specific to the brand. The HV pump will not make it leak anyworse...

Glad you found your issue before it was too late and you blew the motor.

Oops, I wrote the dipstick that came with my car. I meant the dipstick that came with the pan. I called Moroso the other day about getting the fitting but they are waiting for those dipsticks on backorder til April 24th and I had no luck at any hardware store. I thought the higher volume one would make it leak a higher volume of oil put I trust what you say Rick. You have more experience than I do.

They sound NASTY! I can't wait for all these bugs to be sorted out and to get that PMS system on there. I am also looking for a nice cat-back because I butchered my flowmaster set-up trying to make dumps when I was younger and less intelligent. Anyone have any suggestions? I was wondering, has anyone ever had the SLP resonators only on their 5.0? or 331 in my case? That has to sound un-believable.

it is common sense to put a longer pickup tube on it if you are putting a deeper pan on. if not the pan would be senseless

i checked..... re checked...... and re checked my recheck, lol, for the depth.... the one thing i was wonering though is if say your at 3/4 inch off the bottom on a 7 qt pan? i mean theres so much oil in there would it really starve the engine? just wondering cause it looks like theres alot of oil that goes into that sump. i was pretty much right at 1/2 inch on mine and it took very little bending for it

I'm not as dumb as you are trying to make me look. I just figured the oil pan would come with that pick-up. Its only about 1.5 inches deeper than the stock one. This was after I heated the stock one and bent it so it would fit on with my stud girdle. I asked a few friends of mine and they said it looked fine. I thought so too. Nope. Not at all. Especially with that High Volume pump. Thanks for your input....not.

you could have welded a little tubing in to extend it. some times it's best to not tell anybody about these things.
