I have a 2007 V6 Mustang and I'd like to make the exaust sound a lot louder. Would getting just a muffler do the trick or would I need a new full exaust? I want to keep it single so I don't look like a GT poser. Any suggestions would be great, thanks.
I've never heard of anyone replacing the entire exhaust for a single muffler, you can probably accomplish what you're trying to do with one of the louder mufflers out there (For example the MRT turbine was selected by Scrming specifically because it was loud http://www.v6john.com/Main/Performance/Axle_back/axle_back.htm)
There are lots of posts on this (exhaust/muffler) already, so please do a search to see what's already been said. Also take a look at the stickied thread in this forum with sound clips of mufflers to see what might appeal to you.
I didn't mean i was replacing the whole exhaust just for the muffler. What I ment was , is it required that i have to get the whole exhuast done or can i accomplish getting loud sound from just a muffler.
no you can just replace the muffler for a louder sound. doesnt even require welding. i suggest the MAC SS Axelback. its loud and doesnt sound ricey like some others do.

Do you have a sound clip of this on a v6? 170 isn't too steep. Does the other muffler just screw off or something? How easy is installing? Any info on this product would be great, thanks.
there is a sticky at the top of this forum with sound clips from various mufflers. there is an ok clip of a freshly installed MAC. keep in mind the muffler will mellow out with time and loose some of the raspyness you will hear in the clip. http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=606933
to remove the stock muffler you have to remove the metal clamp that holds the muffler on to the pipe and remove the three hanger brackets.
to put the new muffler on you slid the three hanger brackets on the three hangers on the muffler and slide it back on the pipe under the car. tighten down the clamp on the pipe and reattach the brackets to the car. took me an hour and it was the first time ive ever replaced a muffler. so most of that time was just me looking around forming a plan.
Ditto to what Darkspoon said, but I didn't remove all 3, I only had to remove the 2 closest to the joint. I tried to get the muffler off without removing the hangers and it wasn't happening. The whole process took me about 45 mins. I can see a person easily doing it in 30 minutes or less.
