Gentleman:

I have found an excellent resource for rust repair. This guy, whoever he is, uses POR-15 and Peel Away 7 rust removal.

I ordered my POR-15 a few days ago and I just placed an order for Peel Away 7 today. I've never heard of the product before today but I spoke with someone at the company they say it will work just fine for removing patient from a car.

Check out the links:

peel away is used for removing multiple layers of paint. We use it on houses all the time. Its good stuff, you just have to make sure you clean up well.

I've been using POR15 without any problems at all, although there are a few here who say they've had some.....All I did was follow their directions (ok, I didn't use their "marine clean" to degrease....I used acetone instead!) and haven't had any problems!

Did you use their metal etch though? I've heard/read that is key. I went the whole way with my POR application, the stuff was pretty pricey for a can of shiney black paint, so I figured I'd better do what they said so I wouldn't regret it. There's a couple of drops in my garage that folks still walk around thinking it is wet oil or something too

The steps I've followed are:
1) wire brush / wheel
2) wipe clean with acetone
3) rinse with water, allow to dry
4) spray with the "metal ready", allow to dry
5) second water rinse, allow to dry
6) coat with POR15......:
for the small parts I did this week I used a small disposable foam "brush", when I did my floorpans and undercarraige I cut the POR15 50/50 with acetone and sprayed it thru my paint gun......you have to clean the gun THOROUGHLY when you are done, i sprayed acetone thru it until clear.............I plan on doing my brake calipers the same way once I get them apart (except for the machined surfaces!) And being since these parts are under the car out of direct sunlight, I'm not going to worry about top coating them either.
