88 motor with a stock fuel system except for a 255 pump, converted it from SD to MAF yesterday. A9L computer, #36 ford racing injectors, and C&L calibrated MAF. I purchased the MAF with the housing used off of the forums. The car started up nicely, but smelled extremely rich, when i rev it, it dumps a little black smoke out of the pipes. I swapped to a gt-40 upper/lower at the same time, but i really dont think its a vac leak. I am pulling a solid 20'' of vac at idle. I figured the computer needed to do some learning so i took it out for a drive to try and clean it up (about 45 miles with mixed driving conditions and styles) Would a bad maf cause it to dump fuel and occasionally stall even after all the driving? Sometimes while driving it when i bring the rpm up to let up the clutch, and the motor gets some load, the rpms drop and it bogs hard.

I could definitely use some advice, Its a daily!

Ditch the 36 lb injectors, they are way too big for a stock engine. Use 19 lb injectors and a 94-95 Mustang GT MAF - $40-$100. It is 70 MM instead of the stock 55 MM on regular stangs built prior to 94. It uses a slip on duct on the side that goes to the throttle body and a 4 bolt flange on the other. You need a flange adapter to fit the stock slip on air ducting that goes to the air box. Wiring plugs right in with no changes. *1 *2

*1.) Metal flange adapter Kurtz Kustomz Motorsports, Inc. KKM Buy the TR70 for $44.95. Or spend some time on eBay looking for one that may fit.
Try AutoZone and ask for 81413 - Spectre / 3 in. Aluminum Intake Mass Air Flow Sensor Adapter at $12.00. You may have to order it online.

*2.) MAF & sensor interchange
The 94-95 Mustang 5.0 MAF & sensor is also found on:
1994-95 Mustang 3.8L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1992-94 Crown Victoria 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1994-95 Mustang, Mustang Cobra 5.0L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1992-94 Town Car 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
1992-94 Grand Marquis 4.6L F2VF-12B579-A2A,
Evidently the –A1A, -A2A, AA, etc. on the end of the part number is a minor variant that did not change the operating specs. You should be able to ignore it and have everything work good.

Great! thanks for the advice. I went back to my stock #19's and picked up a MAF from the local auto parts store. It runs like a champ. Now that i already have the C&L MAF and #36's, can i tune for them easily without a dyno? (I have a wideband sensor)

Don't use the C&L period, sell it on ebay.
And why do you want to use 36lb injectors?

A properly setup mass air car needs little to no tuning, at all.

My motivation for the large injectors is the vortech blower sitting on my workbench... But im having fitment problems (due to it being in a ranger, and not a fox) so it will more than likely end up on the classifieds shortly if a solution is not found.

Well, if you do get it to fit, use a PMAS meter. A c&l is a crappy meter to begin with, the sampling tube system is horrible, then add a supercharger into the mix and it's a recipe for disaster.
