i have the stock exhaust on my 98gt and would like to upgrade to something a little louder, quicker. thinking about flowmasters. any ideas? also, should cats be taken off or would the loss of back pressure screw things up?

Dont take the cats off unless you dont want to be able to pass emissions. Backpressure shouldnt be a problem if you end up losing the cats, but dont just cut them off of the old pipe, get a brand new offroad x or h pipe. As far as exhaust, flowmasters sound great in my opinion, but they are just not loud enough for me. If you just want a little louder than stock, go with flowmaster.

Flows are the classic Mustang sound. Depending on your budget, you can simply have them welded into your current exhaust system, or, if money allows, get a full catback. The biggest HP gain will come from the midpipe replacement (except swapping the manifolds for long tube headers, of course, but the labor cost is pretty steep). Best of luck and welcome!

I had flows on my 00 gt and now on my 03 cobra (they were on when I bought it) but on my 99 cobra I had mac flowpaths. if these werent already on I would have gotten those, and I am sure that way down the road when I run out of other mods I'll make the switch back to the mac flowpaths.

I'm hooked on my Borlas. Stainless steel, warranted basically for life and they sound great. I had flows on for a few years but the drone finally got to me after driving to Cali for the third time (I live in NC but family is in Ca). I fly enough in the Military so a drive across the states is fairly relaxing. The Borlas are pricey but what isn't these days.

flowmasters are overrated badly. true they sound pretty good but everyone and thier brother has the damn things. another thing they flow horrible when compared to other aftermarket mufflers.I like the magnapack and magnaflows alot , also borlas they r expensive but are excellent in quality.the 4.6 liters are pretty picky with exhaust also i personally hate the sound of 4.6 with a x pipe i think it sounds horrible i hat the raspy sound that they make , but a h pipe is totally different nice low deep tone. but thats all just my opinion i know many that like that sound. im sure u will be happy with watever u pick

Look at V-force, they arent known as much as flow master, but they give you more HP, research them, go with an Xpipe, and if you want a loud mean sound get high flows, Im happy with mine, you cant go wrong.

Deepst exhaust I ever heard was produced by a set of equal shortys, into a 3" H-pipe, going into Flowmaster 10 series. I personally think that Flowmasters are good mufflers, just a bit overrated. They are the company that got the jump on marketing. For loudness, I say magnapacks, and an O/R x. Not as deep as an H, but you will wake up Japan with that setup at around 5k.
