Sorry to post another exhaust thread but I still can't make up my mind on which exhaust I want. I am only getting axel-backs for now I will upgrade from there. I want the sound that a 99-04 2v has with flowmasters. I have heard the flowmasters web clip and they don't sound that great to me. They may sound great in person I don't know anyone that has them. I want loudness to be at a level that I will be heard coming. Is there a set of axel-backs out there that have the above features?(Bassani, Pypes, Hooker aerochamber, slp, magnaflow, etc)

I put the Flowmaster American Thunder axle-backs on my 05 and love them. I agree that the sound clips on the website don't sound so great..but sound clips usually s*ck anyway. They have a nice deep sound that isn't much louder than stock, which is just what I was looking for. If you want something really loud, then you'll probably want another kind.

You hit the nail on the head here... Much depends upon the quality of the recording as well as the wuality of your sound system. The sound clips of the Magnaflow that I have heard sound very little like my car does.. My car actually sounds much better!

I put the JBA's on mine, without the X pipe they didnt sound much different and was un impressed, they sound awsome with the x pipe. My friend just put a MAC system on his and makes me wish I would had got those, they sound good, really deep.

Do you know where I could find a sound clip of the MAC exhaust even though sound clips are usually not good. I still would like some idea of how they would sound. Anyone who has the MAC axel-backs, how loud are they and how do you like them.

That's kind of disappointing about the JBA's.......I was considering those. Thanks for the input.

A bit maybe...Live is always better than my digital camera..but it's pretty close.
They are deffinetly louder setups out there (magnapacks for one)..I was just giving an example of one of your choices.

If you want your car to sound like a 2v car, it won't happen-

two different motors- two different sounds-

I think they both sound good though-

I have Bassani and couldn't be happier with the look, sound etc. Sound great at idle. Not too loud but has a good rumble and at WOT its amazing.

I put flowmasters on my car on saturday and they sound great, like typical flowmasters! They're deep, but not obnoxiously loud.

I have been looking at the IMCO exhaust and there are two types available. One is for manuals and the other is for automatics. I want my car to be loud and obnoxious and I can deal with interior drone. My 66 has major interior drone problems but I love how the car sounds. On the other hand it's mostly a garage queen and never sees pavement. I'm thinking of getting the auto. mufflers to have the loudness and maybe get away with minimal drone to save me ears. Does anyone else know of these mufflers and can tell me if my plan will work. Keep in mind that I want to only upgrade with axel-backs so just putting on say flowmasters I don't think they will be much louder than stock.

One other note, I need to be able to somewhat compete with my friend who has a loud as he** 96 cobra

I believe the loudmouths are probably the loudest axle back only setup.
To get any louder...you'll probably need an offroad no cat X pipe.

I got the SLP Loudmouths and love them. They are loud but mellow out on the freeway. I am getting JBA Headers and maybe a better X-pipe after I finish my MACH 1 cosmetic transformation.

Another vote for Bassani. Best exhaust systems on the market right now. Do a search on this board and you'll see why. If you purchase the BX, it's not that expensive.
