ok...so this is driving me nutts, and i have called a muffler shop, and they didnt even attempt to give me a straight answer. on my 88 gt im running bbk shortys, offroad h, and flowmaster 40s with turndowns. my exhaust is 2 1/2, but the turndowns are 2 1/4(got the mufflers from a friend used). are the 2 1/4 turndowns affecting my sound quality/level in any way? not only is my exhaust not nearly as loud as i expected, i have NO drone at all, and it kinda sounds like its working a bit hard to get out the 2 1/4. i might be crazy, but shouldnt a modified motor be louder than a stock motor, typically? i might just have the quietst 5.0 in history running 40s

They will be affecting the sound some but with the turndowns you don't have your exhaust sound being directed straight out in one direction(i.e. out the rear of the car). It bounces the sound of the ground and underside of the car and sound kind of "leaks" out around the edges of the car. Where do the turndowns come out at?

no cats, and the turndowns are about 6" long and are on the outter part of the mufflers, right before the rear axel. i just cant figure out why i have no resonation(aka drone) and its so quite...are the smaller turndowns the cause?

I mean thats a noticable change in pipe diameter, but not enough to quiet a set of mufflers like 40 series. Are you sure they arent 40 series delta flows?

I dont think theyre soo quiet, but the delta flows arent as burly(I think thats the word Im goin for) as the origional 40 series, no doubt about it.
